This is the most precious jewel within our scuba diving packages! Experienced divers think of it as one of the top diving spots worldwide. Malpelo is a volcanic island surrounded by 11 small islets . Its shorelines are cliffs that emerge from a depth of 4000 meters. The marine environment is strongly influenced by the currents and species coming from the Indian Pacific and the Tropical Eastern Pacific. Malpelo is an important place for the reproduction and dispersion of marine especies.
LOCATION: The island´s geographic coordinates are 3°51´07”N and 81°35´40”W , 490 kilometers West off the coast of Buenaventura in Colombia´s Pacific Ocean.
Maximum height: Sierra de la mona , 360 meters above sea level.
CLIMATE: Winds from the Northern Hemisphere and the winds form the Southern Hemisphere converge at what is called the Intertropical Convergence Zone. The wind´s humidity condenses over the island and that´s why it is covered by dense fog most of the time. Rains are frequent from December to March , that being the corresponding winter season.
