CAPURGANA CARIBBEAN

Capurganá, in the language of the Kuna Indians called ” tierra del ají “ - land of the pepper , is located in the gulf of Uraba. With a length of 70 km / 43 miles it is the largest bay in the Colombian Caribbean Coastline. The coral reefs and the variety of marine life forms make this place a marvelous diving, snorkeling and free diving area. A true paradise with a unique position on the borders of Panama, wich allows us to dive around the untouched San Blas islands: hundreds of small tropical islands with spectacular dive sites. In Capurgana we find abundant tropical forests and white sand beaches which invites us to extensive hiking tours, horse riding, Kayak and boat excursions. This dive trip is connected with a stay close to Medellin, in the beautiful "Oriente Antioqueño" – the east of Antioquia. You will be surprised about the beauty of this region and the warmth of his inhabitants.

How to get there: By air regular flights from Medellin (1 ½ hours), with 2 airlines (ADA daily except Wednesday and Searca Monday and Friday) with capacity for 17 persons, 10 kg baggage and 5 kg hand baggage, for group charters the weight may be raised.

Diving: Because the diving places are usually difficult to access, we may still find numerous coral reefs in good shape and with a variety of life forms. Capurgana offers us the unique opportunity to dive in the nearby island paradise San Blas in Panama.

Dive spots: 20 in Capurganá and 8 in San Blas / Panamá (1 hour 15 minutes of Capurganá).

Characteristics: 2 wall dives, wave-shaped coral reefs with different depth ranges

Depth: between 7-30 meters

Water temperature: 28°C / 82°F The best time for diving: May till mid Novembers

Fauna: A variety of sealife can be observed: corals, molluscs, crawfish, crabs, eagle rays and sting rays, nurse sharks, sea turtles, groupers, doctor fish, parrot fish, trumpet fish, puffer fish and a lot more.

Dive boat: 8-meter length, capacity for 15 divers

Tanks: 200 bar/3000 PSI, 11.3 liters INT (DIN Regulators bring adapters please) T.

Dive schedule: flexible, normally double tank dive around 9:00am, diving in the afternoon and night diving depending on number of divers

Dive education system: PADI NAUI

Decompression chamber: Cartagena, hospital Naval.

DIVE CENTER SERVICES

• Rental of dive gear: Mask, fins, snorkel, tanks, BCD’s, Regulators, weight belts and weights. NO DIVE COMPUTER RENTAL

TRAVEL RECOMMENDATIONS:

• Bring wet suit (3mm) or lycra, dive light, dive certification and logbook.
• Solar-screen/block, mosquito repellent, comfortable light clothes and a shoes or sneakers with slide steady profile (hiking).
• There are neither banks nor cash dispensers in Capurgana.
• There are no cars in Capurgana, people move between the villages with bicycles, horses or boats, so you will breath a clean air.
• Life in Capurgana happens outside. Stroll through the streets, talk with the happy people and try the tasty local kitchen.
