NATIONAL PARK ROSARIO ISLANDS – CARTAGENA

A natural reserve consisting of 43 tropical islands, located in the colombian Caribbean. We offer you a private island with its own diving center. Crystal clear, warm water and colorfull coral reefs invite to enjoy snorkeling, diving and kayak activities. The awarded lodging (bamboo construction) offers a marvelous view on the surrounding islands. Cartagena is a Caribbean colonial town and one of the oldest towns in the north of South America. The best known and most visited tourist destination in Colombia. Because of his noteworthy colonial constructions, 1984 Cartagena was declared UNESCO world cultural heritage.

Location: The Rosario Inseln are located 46 kms/29 miles southwest from the colonial town Cartagena on the north coast of Colombia. Pavito is a private island 40 minutes from Cartagena with its own beach, jetty, diving school, swimming-pool and a continuous aerial play of sea birds.

Climate: Typical Caribbean, sunny and warm, average temperature 28 º C / 82 °F

Ecological system: This wonderful island group is formed of coral reefs, crystal clear water and fine sand beaches, mangroves and tropical dry wood. For protection and research purposes 1977 the island group Rosario was declared national park.

How to get there: From Medellin or Bogota everyday flights to Cartagena (1 ½ hours), 20 kg of baggage 5 kg of hand baggage

INFORMATION FOR DIVERS

Diving school: Cartagena Divers, specialized on underwater photo and video, Wreck diving

Diving season: All year diving, best season from Juli to November, 26 to 28 º C / 78°F to 82°F water temperature.

Dive spots: More than 28 Dive spots with depth range between 6 and 40 meters, 5 to 30 minutes boatride.

Charakteristics: Wrecks, wall dives and coral reefs.

Fauna: Big variety of parrot fish, angelfish, butterfly fish, groupers, lobsters, jack fish, Barracudas etc., good coral growth, big fish species are rather rare.

Diving bottles: 80 ft3, 11.3 liters aluminum INT, 200 bars/3000 PSI,

Nitrox: available, surcharge per tank.

Decompression chamber: Hospital Naval, Cartagena.

TRAVEL RECOMMENDATIONS

  • At least 10 days before departure yellow fever vaccine. The vaccination certificate may be required to enter the national park.
  • Please do not bring any aerosol-containing sprays or harpoons. It is not permitted to collect plants, animals and their remains (for example to collect shells). The local communities are educated to conserve their natural environment, hence, we should offer them an example.
  • Bring mosquito repellent and solar-screen/block.
