In addition, it is included in the list of "Wetlands of International Importance".

Thanks to the breathtaking marine life in its waters, Cocos Island was named one of the best 10 scuba diving spots in the world by PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) and a "must do" according to diving experts. For many, the main attractions are the large pelagic species, which are very abundant in this unique meeting point between deep and shallow waters. The largest schools of hammerhead sharks in the World are consistently reported there.Smaller and colorful species area also abundant in one of the most extensive and rich reefs of the south eastern Pacific.
DIVING IN COCOS
Cocos is not a destination for the novice diver. The position in open ocean make the island exposed to changing and sometimes strong currents, upwelling and termoclines. The island has around 20 dive sites all in a compact location, from shallow but steep vertical walls, drift diving, to deep pinnacles down to over 40m, and blue water diving. All sites are close to the island and one another, making Cocos Island an ideal liveaboard diver's playground.
COCOS DIVING SEASON
Cocos is a tropical island with a warm and humide climate, aire temperatures vary between 22 and 33 degree Celsius and water temperature 74 and 87°F (23-30°C).
The Cocos Island dry season is from January to May (generally quiter sea and better visibility up to 35m), and the wet season is from June to December (rougher climate, visibility 10 – 25m), wich brings more plankton to the island and possibilities for Manta and Waleshark watching are increased. Neverthless diving in Cocos is a whole-year activity.
Beautiful blue skies and heavy rain falls are possible throughout the year.
