Ver mapa más grande Surface: 1,141,748 km2, included island group San Andrés and Providencia.Colombia is positioned on the northwest side of South America, bordered by Venezuela and Brazil, in the south by Peru and Ecuador and in the northwest by Panamá. It is the only country of South America with two oceans, the Pacific and the Caribbean Sea. We find various islands, among them Gorgona and Malpelo in the Pacific and the island group San of Andres and Providencia in the Caribbean. Colombia disposes of a strategial important geographical position in the American hemisphere. The position gives this country a status of an access port to Sudamérica. Through different harbours Colombia is connected to the American Continent, Europe and the countries in the Pacific basin. CLIMATEThe position of Colombia in the equator zone forms the base for a big variety in climate zones and ecological systems. Because the equator line runs through the south of Colombia, the country lies in an intertropical zone and receives the same solar irradiation throughout the year. Therefore, day and night duration are the same. The sunlight reaches the surface in the same angle the whole year, that’s why there are no real distinctive seasons, but only “ rainy winters and dry summers ”. This leads to two harvests per year.
